Paranormal Activity (2007)

After a young, middle class couple moves into a suburban 'starter' tract house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be somehow demonic but is certainly most active in the middle of the night. Especially when they sleep. Or try to.

Just like The Blair Witch Project setting a precedent for what can be done with little money & a good idea, w/ Blumhouse turned out to be a million dollar investment. c’mon guys work with me what can we do here on $20 a fake gun and a broke down Honda? @cbak22

Supernatural films leave more baffled than scared. I think the reason why this one worked so well is the actual historical link of ascribing mental illness to demons and this movie played to Katie’s mental torture so well that there was no total element of total fantasy, for me.

When this movie first came about it reminding me of the buzz similar to Blair witch projects. They did a great job of promoting it and I it made me want to watch it by the way they promoted it.
I really thought the acting could have been better or at least could have picked different actors but who knows that could have changed the entire movie.
I waited nervously every time it showed a night scene when they would get into bed and you wouldn’t know if you would see a creepy image, something move in the background, or just nothing at all.

Overall though I liked how everything turned out. Despite my feelings about the actors I still rate it 8/10

A friend of mine actually met Micah’s mother, I guess that’s one of the first thing she tells people when introducing herself. I’ve actually seen this Paranormal Activity film twice, and the first time wasn’t too taken by it. It’s fairly fast-paced, and the style of the found footage takes a while to get used to. Those iconic late-night time lapse shots are my favorite parts, there’s just something so intrinsically creepy about them.

An interesting aspect of this film is seeing all of the elements that would become found footage cliches (the timelapse sleeping shot, a man filming his annoyed girlfriend while she asks him to put the camera down) back when they were fresh. It’s also fun to hear people discussing their opinions of Micah. It seems as though people are split neatly between those who think Micah is annoying and insufferable, and those who admit that they would probably do more or less the exact same thing if they thought there was a ghost in their house. Although, its many imitators have made a lot of elements from Paranormal Activity appear played out, it is still fascinating to watch the film and trace the origins of what have become fixtures of our favorite subgenre.
